I’m in quite a few facebook groups for real estate agents and the other day, someone posted something that was really alarming. She said something to the effect of, “I’d love to outsource my marketing, so I can focus on being an agent.”
When I saw this, I died a little inside, because this agent has been sold a lie, and she doesn’t even know it.
I get it. You’ve been told since the day you got your license to learn your trade, know your market, put service first, and take care of your clients… And that’s true, you do need to do all of that.
…But if you focus on that exclusively, I promise that you’ll be out of business in 5 years.
Let me ask you…
What keeps a business in business?
Where does traffic come from?
So you are a marketer, who’s product is real estate
You are not alone…
But it wasn’t always like this… This is new!
We live in a very unique period in time where the internet has forced major change.
All local businesses have the same problem
…you are not alone
Since the beginning of time, people could focus on a trade, because they always had foot traffic.
How did people find things before the internet existed?
But how do people find things now?
No one wanders around aimlessly looking for things anymore. And the chances of someone stumbling across your business are rare
Times have changed, you need to put marketing first
Of course, you need to be a good Realtor.
But to get traffic, leads, and sales… You need to be a damn good marketer too.
Again, all local business owners are in the same boat…
Let me tell you a story
about one of the scariest moments in my life…
One day, I was outside in the backyard gardening. It was a beautiful spring day, the sun was out, the birds were chirping, and I was so happy to be outside!
But unbeknownst to me, the previous homeowners had strung a live wire through a bush, and when I was trimming the bush, I cut the live wire and almost killed myself.
Thank God, I was using a trimmer with rubber handles, so I didn’t get electrocuted. But the voltage from the wire blew a hole right out of the metal. When I saw that, I knew I was in trouble and had to get this live wire contained as soon as possible or I would have a fire on my hands!
I went to Yelp and found 5 amazing electricians with good reviews. I texted pictures to all of the phone numbers that were listed. 2 texted me back immediately, and one came out to the scene minutes later to help!
Was the electrician who helped me the absolute best electrician in my area? I don’t know. And truthfully, at the time, I didn’t care. I hired him because he was the best electrician that was easiest to find.
The moral of the story is this…
You might be an AMAZING agent, but because no one can find you online, your leads are hiring your competition instead.
If you honestly feel that you are the best agent in your market you OWE IT to your residents to build an online presence!
